Match reports:
Firsts 6 v Leighton Buzzard 25

It was the usual story for Stags when they made the trip through picturesque Woburn to play Leighton Buzzard. The current league leaders were keen to make amends for there last home defeat against Daventry, a side who Huntingdon had beaten at home in their last game. The story being a combination of ill discipline, silly errors and some poor decision making which numerically outweighed some periods of good play.

The home side, buoyed on by a strong home support made good use of the wind and a seven point slope in the first half to develop an eighteen point lead at half time. Both tries were the result of kicks forward by the Buzzard centre which caused confusion in the defensive ranks. Two penalties and a conversion added to the two touch downs. The score could have been worse given the number of penalties given against the Stags, some of which seemed slightly harsh. Excellent defensive work by John McCreadie and Simon Orange together with strong running by number eight Selim Sheik also kept the half time score line respectable.

After the break, Stags benefiting from the conditions staged something of a comeback. Eighteen nil became eighteen six and there was a notable up turn in belief from both Stags players and supporters. The six points came from two penalties from two kicks from the now reliable boot of Elliot “ace” Baldwin. Stags started to maintain some territory and with Benny Giglio charging at the opposition like a enraged bull, Sheik making more and more yards from number eight and captain Neil Welsh beginning to control the game from stand off a much treasured away win could be smelt.

These hopes were dashed when another string of penalties against resulted in a pushover try for the home side.

The remaining minutes were fairly scrappy and error strewn.

With a bit more composure, eradication of some of the errors and a lower penalty count against, Huntingdon should feel they have a strong chance away against Wellingborough next week.
