Match reports:
Firsts 12 v Mens Own 17

Mens Own won their second consecutive match, having lost their first nine, conceding 377 points in the process.

Stags were once again bemused by this defeat, their fifth at home, four of them by a margin of seven points or fewer.

The try count was two apiece, the difference being the second conversion and a penalty by Mens Own full back.

Stags started well, missed an early penalty which didn’t seem to matter as they quickly scored a simple try, quick rucked ball and passing down the line enabling Dale Abblitt to go over, the first try from a Stags back since October 14th.

Stags were disrupted when Matt Parle had to go off with a gash to his ear, the consequence of unpunished foul play, but the match was then lost in the next 25 minutes. Stags failed to win any ball. The Mens Own fly half scored their first try and their second came from an interception allowing number 8 a run in from 70 yards. 17 – 5 to Mens Own at half-time.

The start of the second period saw Tom Beattie finish off an incisive break by Selim Sheik. Matt Durrant converted. Stags fans waited for the anticipated rush of tries. It did not happen. Stags over elaborated, tried too much from far out and made too many errors in the bread and butter aspects of the game. Even when Mens Own had two men in the sin bin simultaneously, their defence could not be breached. There was no further scoring.
